Blake Education: Eggy Words

Blake Education wanted to extend their hugely popular 'Reading Eggs' learn-to-read website program into mobile apps. They came to us.

Blake Education produce digital and print education content for pre-schoolers to tertiary students. They run the extremely successful Reading Eggs and Reading Eggspress websites for children under 12 who are learning to read and responding to demand, wanted to develop a mobile app for smartphones and tablets. The app targets parents of 3-6 year olds who are learning their 'sight words'. We knew it needed to be fun for the kids and engage them to keep coming back.

  • Android phone and tablet apps

Developed in Flash, AS3 published in Adobe AIR for iOS and Android

Eggy Words is a multi-level activity app that makes recognising words fun. Each level features a sight word that young readers need to learn. Eggs with various different words, including the featured sight word, are tossed into the air and the reader must swipe the featured word before it falls to the ground. If they swipe the wrong one, they lose a life. The faster they swipe all the featured words, the higher their score.

The app takes a multi-sensory approach combing voice, images and written words. It features a reward system with 'golden eggs' to be earned for every word, an egg rating on every level, animated critters that hatch at the completion of each level and bonus jigsaw eggs that build a surprise jigsaw throughout the game.

Eggy Words is available in free trial version or the full paid version.
