NSW Government: Turning 18

When the NSW Government wanted a mobile game to help educate school leavers to celebrate the end of school safely, their agency, Red Engine, came to us.

Intelligence

The NSW Government run an education program for teens in their final years of school, Turning 18, which aims to educate them on the risks of alcohol and drug use as they move into adulthood. It's message is simple, its great to party but do it safely. The best place to target that audience is where they spend their lives - the mobile. So we came up with a mobile quiz game to test them on their knowledge of alcohol and drug effects for the chance to win prizes.

Technology

HTML, mobile-optimised site. We built the quiz in HTML to ensure that it runs across mobile platforms within the Turning 18 website.

creativity

The Turning 18 game is a 10 question true/false quiz which asks players to answer a series of questions on drugs and alcohol. Designed to both test player's knowledge and educate them while they're playing, players earn points for correctly answering scores against the clock. The faster they answer correctly, the higher the score awarded.

To encourage repeat-play, every correct answer counts as an entry into the prize draw - the more correct answers, the more prize entries. The major prize is a Macbook Air with iPads as secondary prizes. 

For this age group, social integration is essential. The game integrates Facebook Connect and players must login for the chance to enter the competition. Using the capabilities of Facebook Connect, players can then share their scores to their Wall and invite their Friends to play.
