Fox Footy Live Kick
Fox Footy Live Kick
Fox Footy Live Kick was an engaging second screen experience, being one of the very first smartphone TV companion games to hit the Australian market. It also used real data from live games.
Client: Fox Sports
Project: AFL Live Kick, NRL Live Kick
Deliverables: iOS App, Android App and Website Integrations
The Challenge
FOX Sports Australia knew that most people were on their phone while watching sports. Chatting to friends, checking stats, or something completely different.
We were tasked to find a way to engage their audience on the second screen, as well as the first.
WE DELIVERED
We created an elegant solution by allowing viewers at home to play a simulation of the scoring player’s kick, as it happened live. FOX Sports was offering live games, sometimes earlier than the free to air channels so we knew this could engage their users on the second screen. Whenever a game wasn’t on the user could enter “Practice Mode” and play as much as they like.
Integrating live data from Fox Sports games in to direct gameplay
2.9 Million Minutes of engagement
Over 1.5 million kick attempts during live matches
AFL Live Kick ran for 22 weeks & NRL Live Kick ran for 14 weeks
Players could join teams and compete
Taking live data from the real game, and comparing it to your friends on your team.
Other brands engaged through sponsorships and utilised our integrated Virtual Currency that you could only get from their websites
A national competition with live winners of the game
Throughout the whole development process we worked closely with FOX Sports Australia including the integration of sponsors and their brands.
THE OUTCOMES
AFL Fox Footy Live Kick was such a success, we immediately made the same for NRL fans.
We were one of the first Live TV Companion Apps in Australia, gathering data from live games, affecting the game on your mobile.
These were available via free voucher codes distributed by the app sponsors: Gillette, NAB and Foxtel.
All of that amounted to over 670,000 Sessions for a product that was only available during Live TV games.
